Everything's coming up rosea

Rhodiola Rosea (also knows as golden root, arctic root, roseroot), is an adaptogenic herb which grows at high altitude in the Arctic areas of Asia & Eastern Europe. Second only in popularity to panax ginseng, it has a legendary history dating as far back as 77 AD, when the Greek physician Dioscorides documented the medical applications of the plant in his classic medical text De Materia Medica.

Historically the Vikings used rhodiola to enhance their physical strength and endurance as did the Sherpa people of Tibet, who used the root the help them climb at high altitudes including Mt Everest. Chinese emperors used to send expeditions to Siberia to bring back "the golden root" for medicinal preparations with the people of central Asia considered rhodiola rosea tea to be the most effective treatment for cold and flu.

Thanks to its reputation for fighting fatigue, depression, stimulating the nervous system and enhancing work performance, rhodiola and its adaptogenic stable mate panax ginseng were hugely popular in the Soviet as they endeavoured to compete with the West in all things. They believed its potency and ability to strengthen all systems of the body could give them the upper hand over the West in Olympic performance, military developments, science, medicine and space exploration. You can find Rhodiola Rosea in both our Tonic3 and Vitalise drinks.

We use a significant dose (450mg) of rhodiola in our potent adaptogenic Tonic 3.  This potent little potion is an excellent immunity tonic as, in addition to helping the body adapt to stress, rhodiola stimulates the immune system by reinstating metabolic balance (homeostasis). It also functions well as an energy tonic prior to a physical workout, as rhodiola is said to help with muscle power and recovery post exercise.
