Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock this year, you’ll have likely heard of CBD and its potential benefits – it’s taking the world by storm! As a potential counter to some of the very real challenges that we face with modern living (stress and anxiety to name a few) it’s no wonder the interest in CBD is high and that we are seeing it pop up in all sorts of products. Whilst much of the conversation around CBD has initially focused on understanding what it is (and also that it won’t get you high), those that have tried it and are making it part of their daily wellness routine are looking at some of the more interesting aspects of the topic. 

One of the topics that encourages much debate is dosing.  What’s the right amount for me? Can you take too much? Can you take too little? How often? Whilst there is no need to be nervous about taking too much CBD, it can become quite an expensive wellness ritual if dosing large quantities.  So what is the right answer?

In reality there is no one size fits all answer.  Everyone’s body is different and everyone’s endocannabinoid system responds differently (yes, we all have one of those - more on that in a later blog!). To some degree you need to try and see what works for you. One of the methodologies for doing this is micro dosing.

What is Microdosing?

Microdosing, also known as “self-titration” is a means to control your CBD dosage and therefore find the lowest effective dose for you. This way CBD microdosers are able to function at an optimal level through their day, reaping the benefits of CBD without having over-done it. CBD doses are measured in milligrams and there are lots of different methods to use it. For example it can be placed under the tongue as an oil suspension with a dropper, in food and drink items, or it can be administered as a topical ointment to the skin.

Microdose the right way

Before embarking on your microdosing journey, it’s important to understand the differences in quality of your CBD. Where was it grown? Is your CBD an Isolate, Broad-Spectrum or Full-Spectrum? A CBD Isolate is exactly what it sounds like; pure, isolated CBD compound, all by itself. Full-Spectrum, is the whole plant extract, which includes other cannabinoids; vitamins, minerals, terpenes, and healthy Omega fatty acids and THC. At Botanic Lab we use Broad-Spectrum, which contains some of the properties of Full-Spectrum, but zero THC.

Whether you consume your CBD  with a dropper, as an edible or in a drink, it is recommended to begin your daily dose with 2-5mg and to adjust accordingly to find your “sweet spot”. Different delivery methods will take different amounts of time to feel an impact.  On your search for the “sweet spot” bear in mind that although you are unlikely to feel any adverse effects while taking CBD, it is important to understand your body throughout this process - our bodies are ever changing and the effects of CBD are subtle, but noticeable with the right awareness.
